Google To Launch Two Mid-range Pixel Smartphones

Google is reportedly planning to launch two mid-range Pixel smartphones.

A tear down of ARCore 1.5 by Android Police, two devices with the code name ‘Bonito’ and ‘Sargo’ was spotted in the list of smartphones that support Google’s platform for mobile augmented reality. The two devices are said to be ‘Google-made’ since the previous models had fish-based ‘naming convention.’

According to Android Police, the device with the code name Bonito was first leaked by tipster Roland Quandt of WinFuture.de. The tipster revealed that Google is working on a smartphone featuring a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC and it is code named ‘Bonito.’

Rumors about Google’s supposed mid-range Pixel smartphone emerged in April this year when reports revealed that the tech giant is working on new mid-range ‘Desire series’ powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 and Snapdragon 700 series mobile platform.

The Bonito device appeared on GFXBench last month showcasing Snapdragon 710 processor and corroborating previous rumors. While the supposed mid-range Google phone with code name ‘Bonito’ surfaced on several leak reports earlier, the code name ‘Sargo’ has appeared for the first time.

While the ARCore is frequently updated with new features and a list of devices that support AR, the inclusion of the devices indicate that the launch might happen soon. However, Google has not shared any details regarding the mid-range Pixel phones yet and we would recommend taking the report with a grain of salt.
