Google May Soon Let Users Change Their Gmail Address Without Losing Data

Google users could soon gain the long-requested ability to change their Gmail address, according to information uncovered on an official Google support page. The update would allow people to swap their existing @gmail.com address for a new one without disrupting their account.

Details of the feature appeared on a Google support page written in Hindi, suggesting that the rollout has already begun in certain regions. The page indicates that users will be able to select a new Gmail address, while their old address remains linked to the account as an alias.

Importantly, the change would not affect stored data, emails or account history, meaning users could update their address without starting from scratch.

The translated support document states that “the ability to change your Google Account email address is gradually rolling out to all users.” The discovery was first shared on a Google Pixel forum on Telegram and later reported by tech publication 9to5Google.

So far, Google has not issued an official announcement confirming the feature. The English version of the same support page still notes that users typically cannot change an @gmail.com address, highlighting that the update may still be in early stages.

Until now, Google has only allowed users to modify their account email if it was not a Gmail address. If the new option becomes widely available, it is expected to appear within account settings.
