Gogo Skhotheni Sparks Outrage For Saying “Chickens Can’t Cleanse You!” Amid Ditching Sangoma Life

Former traditional healer, reality star, and DJ Gogo Skhotheni—real name Tumi Motsoeneng—has officially turned her back on the sangoma lifestyle, and she’s not holding back.

A week into her new walk with God, the Izangoma Zodumo alum is now publicly speaking out against spiritual practices she once endorsed.

In a recent video that had social media in full debate mode, she slammed the use of chickens in cleansing rituals:

“Chickens are not meant to wipe your sins away, neither were they created to remove your bad luck, cleanse you from abortions, or miscarriages. They are also not meant to get rid of muthi. They are meant to be eaten.”

Not her coming for spiritual chickens, child!

Skhotheni went on to declare her spiritual shift, saying: “I am a child of God. This is the day that the Lord has made. I am very happy. I wish I could sing, I wish I could do so much. My heart is full.”

Social Media Divided: Praise, Confusion, and Full-on Dragging

While some fans applauded her decision to step into her faith, others dragged her for filth—accusing her of misleading people and disrespecting African spirituality.

Even Ntsiki Mazwai chimed in with a firm no ma’am, suggesting Gogo Skhotheni should step away from the spotlight and grieve her late son in peace.

“Only fake sangomas can quit a calling,” said @SdizoRSA.

“Why do I feel like she just likes trending?” asked @Liihlendimande.

@SthembiD didn’t mince words: “Whoever attends her church and believes her is a fool!”

On the flip side, some users argued that people should be allowed to change their paths—without facing a spiritual firing squad.

@Kane_GM9 said: “I don’t understand why Christians demonise other people’s beliefs to feel better about themselves.”

What’s Next for Tumi Motsoeneng?

Now going by her real name, Tumi says she’s officially done with consultations, no longer gives out traditional medicine (isidliso, imbiza), and is focused on a new chapter.

“I’m officially making this video to announce that I am no longer a traditional healer. I am no longer a sangoma. I’m no longer practising,” she said.
