Watch| Gogo Maweni Pregnant With Twins To Spend Another Week Behind Bars

Celebrity sangoma Makgotso Mofokeng aka Gogo Maweni made her highly anticipated appearance at the Protea Magistrate’s Court, charged with assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH).
The charge stems from an alleged altercation in 2019 involving a relative of her ex-lover. Her arrest by members of the Gauteng Cold Case Investigation Unit on Sunday afternoon has reignited public interest in her controversial life.

Pregnant with Twins: Media Access Drama
During the proceedings, Gogo Maweni’s defence attorney, Marcia Makuse, attempted to bar the media from filming her client, citing personal reasons. Makuse revealed that Maweni is currently pregnant with twins, conceived through IVF, and expressed concerns over how media coverage could negatively impact her children’s well-being.
“My client has four minor children aged 12, 8, 7, and 6, and she is pregnant with twins. For this reason, she seeks to avoid public exposure since this case remains speculative and may affect her family,” Makuse argued.
Maweni, dressed casually in grey track pants, a matching tank top, and green slippers, appeared visibly uncomfortable, frequently rubbing her belly and requesting to sit down. Despite the defence’s objections, the magistrate granted the media permission to cover the proceedings, noting that the case is already in the public domain and of significant public interest.
Allegations of Lying to the Court
When questioned about her criminal history, Maweni claimed she had no prior convictions. However, state prosecutor Advocate Tsautse revealed that she had previously been charged with assault GBH in 2017.
The magistrate, Rozelle Khiye, appeared unimpressed by the revelation, calling into question Maweni’s honesty. The defence admitted to being aware of the 2017 case but stated it was withdrawn without further instruction. The state has requested seven days to gather additional records and profiling before the bail application can proceed.

Adding fuel to the fire, rumours have circulated linking Maweni to five pending murder cases in Gauteng. These cases, reportedly tied to incidents in Eldorado Park, Mondeor, Orange Farm, and Bekkersdal, date between 2020 and 2024. However, police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo emphasized that these allegations are still under investigation and cannot be confirmed at this time.
“The suspect’s connection to these cases remains unverified, pending further investigation,” Masondo stated.

As the case unfolds, Mzansi will undoubtedly be watching closely, with public interest fueled by Maweni’s controversial reputation and high-profile status.
