Police Appeal For Information On Separate Khayelitsha Incident

According to Potelwa, Boagen lived in Khayelitsha but worked in Nyanga. A post-mortem examination is being conducted in line with standard procedures.

She added that police had made contact with the victim’s relatives and extended their condolences.

Potelwa also responded to a media statement issued by Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, saying SAPS has no record of a murder reported in Khayelitsha.

“In as far as the media release issued by the Ghanaian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the South African Police Service bears no record of the Khayelitsha murder hence an earnest plea is made to the authorities in question to provide details of the Khayelitsha incident to the SAPS in order for the matter to be probed further.”

Police said detectives are continuing with their investigation in an effort to identify and arrest those responsible for the shooting.

The incident comes during a week marked by nationwide anti-immigrant protests, which culminated on 30 June, with many foreign nationals reportedly leaving parts of the country over fears of violence.
