Gayton McKenzie Rejects Racism Claims, Says He Will Never Apologise

Patriotic Alliance (PA) leader and Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, has dismissed accusations of racism, saying he has no reason to apologise.
This follows a storm of criticism over allegedly offensive social media posts that drew the attention of the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC).
McKenzie insists the controversy is based on a misrepresentation of his remarks. “A proper analysis would show that I was commenting on the quotes and remarks of others and that I would never direct racial slurs at anyone,” he said during a party briefing on Monday night.
Gayton McKenzie Challenges Human Rights Commission’s Probe
The PA leader confirmed that he had consulted his lawyer to prepare a formal response to the SAHRC’s investigation. He criticised the commission for releasing statements to the media before directly engaging with him.
“I will not apologise, because I’m not a racist. I’ve not said racist things. I will explain everything that was said there,” McKenzie emphasised.
He also questioned why the probe included alleged xenophobic conduct, saying he was prepared to defend himself in court. “Those things they say, we are going to break it down in the Equality Court and you will see at the end of the day, I will come out of here victorious.”
Minister Stands Firm on His Role and Position
Despite the mounting scrutiny, McKenzie made it clear that he would not bow to pressure to step down as minister. He rejected suggestions that an apology was necessary to safeguard his position.
“I will not be forced to resign from my ministerial job, neither will I be forced to issue an apology to hold on to the role,” he declared.
