Gauteng’s Anti-Gang Unit Cracks Down On Substance Abuse

Three successful arrests have been initiated  in separate incidents over the past few days, by the Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) in Gauteng, in the fight against substance abuse.

The operation, which began on Monday, March 31, 2025, has resulted in the seizure of various illegal substances, including crystal meth, mandrax tablets and powder, and nyaope.

Community Involvement Crucial In Combating Crime

Brigadier Maphoto, the AGU Commander, in  emphasizing  the important role of community involvement in the ongoing fight against crime said, “Residents are reminded that they remain the eyes and ears of the SAPS.

“Their tip-offs can significantly assist the AGU in combating crime, ensuring that those in conflict with law and order face the appropriate consequences.”

The AGU encourages residents to report any suspicious activities, which can be done anonymously through the MySAPS App or by contacting the SAPS Crime Stop line on 08600 10111.

Combating  Substance Abuse

The Gauteng government has also launched a substance abuse helpline.

A 24-hour anti-substance abuse call centre service that provides a platform for parents/caregivers to seek help for children and young people addicted to drugs.
