Gauteng Matric Pupil Stabbed To Death Days After Another Learner Killed

A Grade 12 pupil from Daleview Secondary School was killed on Monday after being stabbed while walking home in Ennerdale.

According to the Gauteng education department, the incident occurred in an open veld shortly after school hours. The learner succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Second Deadly Attack in Days Shocks Education Sector

The tragedy follows another fatal incident involving a learner from Forest High School.

A 17-year-old Grade 8 pupil was attacked in a park near the school on Friday after school hours. He was severely beaten and stabbed before being rushed to hospital. Despite medical efforts, he later died from his injuries.

The two incidents, occurring within days of each other, have intensified concerns over learner safety in and around schools.

MEC Condemns Violence On Pupils, Calls for Community Action

Gauteng education MEC Matome Chiloane expressed deep sorrow over the killings and condemned the violence.

“The Forest High School learner sustained severe injuries during the incident and was taken to a local hospital before being transferred to another hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries,” he said.

“The circumstances surrounding these incidents are under investigation by police. Psychosocial support services have been mobilised and will be provided to learners, educators, and the bereaved families to assist them during this time.

“This is a deeply painful loss for our education community. Violence against our learners, whether on or outside school premises, is unacceptable and cannot be tolerated.

“We call on communities to work with law enforcement to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice and to stand united in protecting our children so that our schools remain safe spaces for teaching and learning.”

Police investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
