Gauteng Man Gets Four Life Sentences For Raping And Impregnating 13-Year-Old Cancer Patient

A 47-year-old man from Tsakane Extension 13 has been handed four life sentences for a series of brutal crimes against a child, raping and impregnating a 13-year-old girl who was bravely fighting cancer.
The Tsakane Regional Court heard that the sexual assaults occurred repeatedly between December 2015 and April 2016. The attacks took place while the minor was visiting her grandmother’s home, a place where she should have been safe.
Prosecutors revealed that the man, a trusted family friend and neighbour, exploited his position. He would call the girl to his house, rape her, and then threaten to kill her if she ever disclosed the abuse to anyone.
Justice for a Child Betrayed: A Case of Extreme Vulnerability
After his initial arrest, the case was provisionally withdrawn in November 2016. However, it was reinstated and placed back on the court roll in 2020, allowing the pursuit of justice to continue.

The State argued strongly for the ultimate penalty. Prosecutors emphasised that the man’s actions went far beyond rape; he not only impregnated the child but also infected her with HIV, all while she was undergoing a battle with cancer.
The State contended that he had callously stripped away her innocence during a period of immense vulnerability.

Gauteng’s National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson, Lumka Mahanjana, confirmed the court’s comprehensive ruling.
“The court ordered the sentences to run concurrently, with his name added to the National Register for Sexual Offenders and declared him unfit to work with children,” Mahanjana stated.
The sentence ensures the offender will remain behind bars for life, registered as a sex offender, and permanently barred from any work involving children.
