Gauteng Man Caught With Stolen Car Headed For Zimbabwe

A 42-year-old Gauteng man was arrested in Mokopane after he was caught driving a stolen white Toyota Corolla Cross allegedly headed to the Beitbridge border post to be smuggled out of the country.

Intelligence Tip-Off Leads to Swift Man’s Arrest

According to police, members of the Anti-Smuggling Task Team and the Provincial Tracking Team, supported by Tshimollo and Shadowsecure private security companies, received a tip-off about the stolen vehicle travelling from Gauteng toward Limpopo.

Officers quickly operationalised the intelligence and began monitoring key routes in Mokopane town. The vehicle matching the description was spotted along the R101 road and swiftly intercepted.

Vehicle Reported Stolen in Gauteng

The driver failed to provide proof of ownership, and further checks confirmed that the Toyota Corolla Cross had been reported stolen a day earlier, on Tuesday, 11 November 2025, at Lenasia SAPS in Gauteng.

The suspect was immediately arrested and is set to appear before the Mokopane Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 14 November 2025, facing a charge of possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle.

Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe applauded the collaborative effort, praising the quick coordination between law enforcement and private security companies.

“This swift action shows what can be achieved when intelligence sharing and teamwork come together to stop cross-border crime,” said Lt Gen Hadebe.
