Gauteng Father Faces Court For Raping Daughter And Fathering Her Child

A 39-year-old Gauteng father appeared in the Tsakani Magistrate’s Court, Ekurhuleni, facing charges of allegedly raping his teenage daughter and fathering a child with her. The horrifying abuse reportedly began in March 2022 when the victim was just 15 years old.

According to Lumka Mahanjana, spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the girl lived with both parents and her younger brother in Tsakani when the assaults started.

“On the day of the first incident, the mother was at church, leaving the victim with her father and brother. It’s alleged that the father called the victim into the house while playing outside and sent her brother to buy chips from the shops,” Mahanjana explained.

“When the victim entered, she found her father in her room. He allegedly locked the door, undressed both himself and the victim, raped her, and left her in her room.”

Gauteng Mother’s Denial and Failed Abortion Attempt

When the mother returned home, she found her daughter in tears. The teen revealed the assault, but her mother refused to believe her.

“After the first incident, a second incident allegedly happened, however, the mother still did not believe the victim until she stopped reporting the rapes, which continued when the mother was away,” Mahanjana said.

Months later, the girl fell ill and was taken to Pholosong Hospital, where doctors confirmed she was pregnant. Shockingly, the mother allegedly tried to force an abortion by making her drink a dangerous concoction—which failed.

The parents then sent the victim to Limpopo to live with her paternal grandmother, where she gave birth to a boy in December 2022.

Justice Delayed: Victim Finally Speaks Out at 18

After turning 18, the young woman bravely opened a case in Limpopo in July 2025, leading to her father’s arrest.

In court, the accused requested R1,000 bail, claiming to be the primary caregiver for his three children, with his unemployed wife unable to support them. However, Sergeant Tebogo Lephoto, the investigating officer, strongly opposed bail.

“DNA evidence confirms the accused is the father of the victim’s child, now three years old,” Lephoto stated. “He is also likely to interfere with witnesses, as he traveled from Gauteng to Limpopo to confront the victim after learning she had opened a case and spoken about it on social media.”

The court postponed the bail judgment to August 12, 2025.
