Investigation Details

Colonel Nevhuhulwi elaborated on the police’s findings, stating that dye-stained money had been deposited into a specific bank account.

Investigators traced the account back to an address in Katlehong, revealing that it was established for a foreign national woman residing at that location. This crucial lead eventually directed police towards her husband, who already had multiple outstanding warrants related to earlier ATM bombing incidents.

Consequences and Public Warning

Upon conducting a raid at a salon operated by the woman, authorities successfully recovered the dye-stained cash. Both individuals are set to appear in court soon.

The police reiterated a significant warning against the acceptance of dye-stained cash, emphasizing that such currency is likely contaminated with ink dye from security mechanisms within ATMs.

These systems are designed to protect cash by staining it upon unauthorized access, rendering the cash worthless. As such, possessing such money could implicate individuals in a criminal investigation linked to ATM security breaches.
