Gauteng Class Of 2025 Poised For Historic 90% Matric Pass Rate

The Gauteng Education Department has confirmed that the class of 2025 is on track to continue the upward trend in matric results following last year’s 88.41% pass rate.
Officials spoke to the media at Parktown Girls’ High in Johannesburg on Sunday about preparations for the upcoming National Senior Certificate exams.
The matric exams are scheduled to take place from 21 October to 27 November 2025, with schools across the province gearing up to ensure learners are fully prepared.
Term-by-Term Tracking Shows Promising Results
Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane highlighted the province’s careful tracking of student performance as a key factor in this year’s progress. A comparison of term-by-term results with 2024 indicates that the class of 2025 is heading towards a historic 90% pass rate.

“Most of the time you see the results; you don’t know what goes on behind. We track the performance of each learner. We identify the learner and customise the programme around supporting that particular learner,” Chiloane said.
