Gang Violence Escalates In Elsies River As Alleged Hitman Gunned Down

Bloodshed continues in Elsies River after gunmen shot and killed an alleged gang member inside his Clarke Estate home early yesterday morning.
Rezano “Tiekie” Bruintjies, the victim reportedly worked as a hitman and died in what police suspect was a gang-related attack. Investigators believe members of a rival gang from Eureka Estate, also known as White City, carried out the killing.

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirmed that officers are investigating the murder.
“Elsies River police registered a murder case following a shooting at 2am in Edward Place, Clarke Estate, where a 25-year-old man was fatally wounded,” Van Wyk said.

“According to reports, SAPS members responded to a shooting complaint at the address. On arrival, they found the victim’s body under the kitchen table. He had suffered gunshot wounds to the upper body.”

On Monday, a 50-second video surfaced online showing a group of armed men exchanging gunfire in broad daylight along 35th Street, as passing vehicles dodged the bullets.
However, male and female voice can be heard in the video, recorded from a bedroom window. The footage shows men running and shooting while dodging gunfire from rivals. One man reloads his firearm before continuing to fire, then flees with the group.
Some community members speculate that “Tiekie” may have recorded the video, prompting the White City gang to target him. However, Van Wyk confirmed that police believe the motive was gang-related.

Residents are living in fear as gang violence intensifies. Community leader, who asked to remain anonymous for safety reasons, described the area as extremely tense.
“I know Tiekie was shot because he was a gangster, but I doubt he made that video,” he said. “The area is tense, that’s a fact. Nobody knows what to expect. Parents are keeping their children out of school because of what’s happening in Clarke Estate.”
Van Wyk urged anyone with information to call Crime Stop at 08600 10111.
