Four Suspects Killed In Police Shootout Linked To Violent Crimes

A deadly shootout in Durban’s Duffs Road area on Thursday ended with the deaths of four men suspected of being involved in various violent crimes, including murder, robbery, and extortion.

The police are now investigating whether the men were part of a larger criminal network operating in the eThekwini District.

The confrontation occurred when police intercepted a vehicle traveling along Lark Road toward Dumisani Makhaye Drive.

Upon spotting the police vehicle, the suspects opened fire, prompting officers to return fire.

Three suspects were killed in the vehicle, while a fourth suspect attempted to flee but was later found dead nearby with gunshot wounds.

Unlicensed Firearms Recovered At The Scene

During the shootout, police recovered three unlicensed firearms—two from the suspects’ vehicle and one from the fleeing suspect.

Fortunately, no police officers were injured in the exchange of gunfire.

Authorities have confirmed that the four men were linked to several serious criminal activities in the area but have not yet confirmed whether they were associated with a specific gang.

Ongoing Investigation Into Criminal Network

Colonel Amanda Funani, spokesperson for the KwaZulu-Natal SAPS, spoke to the media at the scene, stating that the suspects had been involved in multiple cases of violent crime.

However, she emphasized that the investigation is still in its early stages.

“We are still working to profile the deceased suspects and determine if there are any other accomplices still at large,” she said.

Funani confirmed that the suspects were linked to cases of murder, robbery, and extortion, although she noted that further details would be provided once the investigation progresses.
