Four Suspects Killed In Gunfire Exchange With EMPD

Four suspected robbers were killed in a shootout with the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) following a daring daylight robbery in Alberton.

The suspects killed, believed to have robbed the Dog Box Liquor Store on Kritzinger Avenue in Verwoerdpark, met their tragic end after a high-speed chase and violent confrontation with police officers.

Robbery And Shootout

According to EMPD spokesperson Thabiso Makgato, the robbery took place in broad daylight when five individuals in a silver Renault Triber fled the scene after robbing the liquor store.

Community members immediately alerted the EMPD officers who were patrolling the area.

As the suspects sped towards the N3 north, officers launched a high-speed pursuit, determined to bring the criminals to justice.

During the pursuit, the killed suspects fired on the officers, leading to an intense exchange of gunfire.

In the ensuing shootout, four of the suspects were fatally wounded.

A fifth suspect sustained a leg injury and was swiftly transported to Thelle Mokgoerane Hospital for treatment.

Police Gunfire Ends Crime Spree

The EMPD has confirmed that investigations into the robbery and the identities of the deceased suspects are ongoing, with authorities working to gather additional details.

The authorities decried the increasing level of violence associated with criminal activity.

Another Shootout in KwaZulu-Natal: Five Cash-In-Transit Robbers Killed

In a separate incident last Wednesday, five suspected cash-in-transit robbers were also killed in a shootout with police in Ridgeview, near Chesterville, KwaZulu-Natal.

Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda confirmed that the suspects, wanted for a heist in KwaMashu on March 31, 2025, were planning to commit another robbery in the iLembe District.

Police, acting on intelligence, confronted the suspects as they prepared to carry out their plans. A shootout ensued, resulting in the deaths of all five suspects on the scene.

Authorities found four firearms in their possession, confirming the deadly intent of the group.
