4 Suspects Arrested In East London Drug Bust Operations

East London Crime Prevention officers arrested four male suspects during coordinated crime prevention operations on 28 April 2025 in the Quigney and Oriental Plaza areas.

The suspects were found in possession of dagga, Mandrax, and Tik, with one facing an additional charge of dealing in drugs.

While patrolling the Quigney area, law enforcement officers stopped and searched two males, aged 21 and 38, who consented to the search.

During the search, police discovered 38 bankies of dagga and one loose quantity of dagga in their possession.

Both suspects were arrested on the scene for possession of dagga.

Later in the day, officers patrolling Oriental Plaza apprehended a 38-year-old male after he was found carrying 50 Tik bankies weighing 0.040 kilograms, 4 full Boss Mandrax tablets, 20 half-pieces of Mandrax, and 16 small Mandrax pieces weighing 0.035 kilograms.

He also had an undisclosed amount of cash, suspected to be proceeds from drug sales.

In a separate incident at Oriental Plaza, a 21-year-old male was arrested for possession of 50 full Mandrax tablets and 20 Tik bankies.

He faces an additional charge of dealing in drugs due to the quantity and packaging of the substances found.

Suspects To Appear In East London Magistrate’s Court

All four suspects are scheduled to appear before the East London Magistrate’s Court on 29 April 2025.

They face multiple charges, including possession of dagga, possession of Mandrax, possession of Tik, and dealing in drugs.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) commended the efforts of the Crime Prevention Unit in curbing the circulation of illegal substances in East London and reaffirmed their commitment to ongoing anti-drug operations in the region.
