Four Killed In Multi-Vehicle Crash Near Ysterberg Mountain On N1 In Limpopo

Four people have lost their lives following a serious road crash involving three vehicles near Ysterberg Mountain, just outside Polokwane in Limpopo.
The collision has resulted in the complete closure of both lanes of the N1, causing major traffic disruptions for motorists travelling between Polokwane and Johannesburg.
The incident marks the second deadly crash reported on the same stretch of road on Sunday. Earlier in the day, five people were killed when a taxi suffered a tyre burst, underscoring concerns about road safety along the route.
N1 Closed as Authorities Manage Limpopo Crash Scene
Emergency services and traffic officials remain on site as investigations continue into the cause of the latest collision. Motorists have been urged to exercise patience while authorities work to clear the scene and ensure safety.
Transport spokesperson Dali Tshifhiwa confirmed that alternative routes have been put in place to ease congestion. He said, “Road users going to Johannesburg and also Polokwane are advised to use alternative routes.

“The motorists travelling from Gauteng must use the Nyl Plaza off-ramp and join the R101 and those travelling to Gauteng must use the R101 from Polokwane. We regret the inconvenience caused.”

The back-to-back fatal crashes have once again drawn attention to the dangers faced by road users on major national routes, particularly during busy travel periods.
Authorities have reiterated calls for motorists to remain vigilant, adhere to speed limits and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy, especially when travelling long distances.
