Four Arrested Following Service Delivery Protest In Lenasia

On Monday morning, residents of Nana’s Farm informal settlement took to the streets to protest against service delivery issues.

The protest led to the closure of the N12 in the Lenasia area, causing significant disruptions. The demonstrators expressed their frustration over the lack of basic services, which has been a long-standing issue in the community.

Johannesburg Metro Police spokesperson Xolani Fihla provided an update on the situation, stating that the police had been actively monitoring the area.

Initially, the protest was tense, with reports of a vehicle being torched. However, law enforcement quickly intervened, deploying officers to disperse the crowds using rubber bullets. Their efforts have helped to contain the situation and prevent further escalation.

According to Fihla, the situation has calmed down significantly. The police have successfully managed to reopen several roads that were previously closed, including Baker Asvat Drive, K43, and the N12 East.

Authorities are currently in the process of clearing and reopening the N12 West as well. Despite the earlier unrest, the area is now under control, and the police continue to monitor the situation to ensure stability.
