Four Arrested After Three Off-Duty Police Officers Attacked In Harrismith
Police have arrested four people after three off-duty officers were allegedly assaulted outside a Harrismith tavern, with a fifth suspect still being sought.
Four suspects are in police custody after three off-duty police officers were allegedly attacked outside a tavern in Harrismith in the early hours of Sunday. The officers were sitting in their private vehicles when a group of five people allegedly launched an assault. All three officers were injured and later taken to local hospitals for medical treatment.
The incident happened at around 2am on Sunday, 27 September 2026. Police said one of the officers noticed two colleagues being attacked and immediately stepped in, but he was also allegedly assaulted after leaving his vehicle.
Harrismith Police Arrest Four After Alleged Attack On Officers
The Harrismith police investigation resulted in four arrests following a rapid response to the incident. The suspects, aged between 21 and 25, were arrested after preliminary investigations into the alleged attack. Police are still searching for the fifth person who allegedly fled the scene with the group.

The suspects reportedly escaped in an unidentified vehicle at approximately 02:00. Investigators are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack and identify the outstanding suspect.
Three Off-Duty Police Officers Hospitalised After Harrismith Assault
The Harrismith police officers attack left all three officers injured and requiring hospital treatment. At the time, the officers were off duty and had been sitting in their own vehicles outside the tavern. The attack allegedly began when a group confronted two of the officers before their colleague attempted to intervene.

Police are investigating three cases of attempted murder following the incident. Further details about the officers’ injuries have not been released.
Harrismith Attempted Murder Suspects Due In Court
The four Harrismith attack suspects are expected to appear before the Harrismith Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 29 September 2026. They are facing an investigation into attempted murder relating to the alleged assault on the three officers. The fifth suspect remains at large.
Police said investigations are continuing as officers work to locate the remaining suspect and gather further evidence linked to the case.
