Four Armed Security Guards Behind Bars After Terrifying Roadside Attack

Four security guards have been arrested for attempted murder, malicious damage to property, and intimidation after allegedly attacking a motorist at Nhlazatshe Crossing in Elukwatini, Mpumalanga.

Provincial police spokesperson Captain Mpho Nonyane-Mpe said the incident occurred on Monday after the guards stopped a man’s vehicle and demanded to search it. When the driver refused, a heated argument broke out.

Securty Guards Use Gunfire, Stones

According to police, the security guards then pelted the man’s vehicle with stones before opening fire.

“The driver managed to escape unharmed and reported the matter to police, who launched an immediate manhunt,” said Nonyane-Mpe.

Within hours, officers tracked down and arrested the four suspects — Phumlani Muzi Nene (31), Mongameli Xaba (29), Mhlengu Shange (32), and Siyabonga Zondo (29).

During the arrest, police seized four firearms, including two semi-automatic rifles, a shotgun, and a pistol, along with 104 rounds of live ammunition.

‘No One Is Above the Law,’ Says Police Commissioner

The suspects appeared before the Chief Albert Luthuli Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday and were remanded in custody pending a formal bail application on 12 November.

Acting provincial commissioner Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi commended officers for their swift response.

“We appreciate the members for their unwavering commitment in ensuring that those who break the law face the consequences,” Mkhwanazi said.
“No one is above the law, and we will not hesitate to act against anyone who uses their position or uniform to harm the community.”

Police urged private security companies to ensure that their employees operate within the law, warning that any abuse of power will not be tolerated.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
