Former Teacher And Alleged Paedophile Iain Wares Hands Himself Over To Police

Former teacher and alleged paedophile Iain Wares has surrendered to authorities after years of legal delays. The 86-year-old was taken into custody at the Simon’s Town Magistrates Court on Thursday under a United Kingdom (UK) extradition warrant, according to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).

The arrest forms part of a UK extradition request in which Wares is charged with multiple counts of sexual and physical abuse dating back more than 50 years. He was formally arrested and appeared in court on 90 new charges.

The NPA confirmed that these include 60 counts of sexual assault, four counts of rape, 25 counts of assault, and one count of crimen injuria. The alleged crimes took place in the 1960s and 1970s and reportedly involved teenage boys in Edinburgh, Scotland, where Wares worked as a teacher.

UK Extradition Case Postponed for Legal Representation

The court has postponed the UK extradition case to 20 November to allow Wares time to appoint legal representation. This follows the latest charges added to his growing list of legal battles.

Iain Wares Still Facing Trial in South Africa

In addition to the UK extradition case, Wares is also standing trial at the Wynberg Magistrates Court in South Africa. This case involves allegations that he sexually abused a pupil at Rondebosch Boys Preparatory School in 1988.

The latest developments mark another turn in the long-running legal saga involving the former educator, whose alleged crimes span both South Africa and the United Kingdom.
