Former SANDF Soldier Sentenced To 20 Years For Raping 15-Year-Old

A 35-year-old former South African National Defence Force (SANDF) soldier, Peace Mashile, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for raping a 15-year-old girl.

Mashile, stationed at the Alexander Bay Army Base in the Northern Cape, exploited his position of trust to commit the heinous crime.

On December 9, 2019, he entered the victim’s bedroom through a window and assaulted her while her cousin slept beside her.

DNA Evidence And Investigation

The victim immediately reported the incident to her mother, who found the clothes Mashile wore during the assault in his room.

Despite SANDF officials’ attempts to handle the matter internally, the victim’s mother insisted on involving the police.

 DNA evidence collected from the victim’s clothing conclusively linked Mashile to the crime, debunking his fabricated defense.

State prosecutor Basil Kock argued that Mashile’s actions were a gross betrayal of trust, not only to the victim and her family but also to his employer and society at large. 

The Port Nolloth Regional Court handed down the 20-year sentence, ensuring justice for the victim and her family.
