Former Police Officer Sentenced To 25 Years For Raping 15-Year-Old Girl

Former police officer, Frederick Soldaat, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for raping a 15-year-old girl in the Montagu police station’s trauma room in August 2016.

Soldaat, a warrant officer at the time, exploited his position of authority to commit the heinous crime.

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) investigated the case, which led to Soldaat’s conviction.

During the trial, State Advocate Heinrich Koert presented evidence revealing the horrific details of the rape.

Soldaat had initially attended to the victim when her mother brought her to the police station, and he later visited her in the trauma room, where he committed the crime.

The Montagu Regional Court sentenced Soldaat to 25 years direct imprisonment, deviating from the prescribed minimum sentence of life imprisonment due to the accused’s medical condition.

National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila said the sentence was a result of the state’s diligent prosecution.

According to Ntabazalila, the sentence serves as a reminder that those in positions of authority will be held accountable for their actions.
