A former police general has been arrested for allegedly possessing more than 100 rounds of South African Police Service (SAPS)-issued ammunition. The 57-year-old was detained by the SAPS National Cold Case Unit following a search at his Centurion home in July. He is expected to appear before the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

The former police general allegedly possessed R5 and 9-millimetre rounds despite having left the police service in 2009. Police said he had no valid reason to possess the ammunition after leaving the service. He faces a charge under the Firearms Control Act.
