Former Orlando Pirates Player Thandani Ntshumayelo Appears In Court For Assaulting Girlfriend

Former Orlando Pirates and Swallows player Thandani Ntshumayelo, also known as ‘Bibo’, recently appeared in court facing a charge of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The midfielder appeared at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court in Johannesburg on Monday after his girlfriend accused him of assaulting her at his home last week Friday.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) regional spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane, the incident occurred during a fight between Ntshumayelo and one of his friends.

His girlfriend tried to intervene to calm the situation, but Ntshumayelo allegedly became aggressive towards her. He allegedly slapped her across the face, grabbed her by the head, and hit it against the wall. The girlfriend further alleges that he then pushed her to the ground.

Ntshumayelo was released on R1,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court again on 4 April, as the case has been postponed for further investigations. It is important to note that these are allegations, and the court will determine the outcome based on the evidence presented.

Ntshumayelo retired from professional football last year at the age of 33. He was last associated with Swallows FC at the end of the 2021-2022 season.

Throughout his career, he made a name for himself at SuperSport United and Orlando Pirates. However, he also faced a setback in 2016 when he tested positive for a banned substance, resulting in a four-year ban that was later reduced to two years on appeal in 2018.
