Former Motswedi Village Bank Manager Sent To Prison For Theft
The Specialised Commercial Crime Court in Mmabatho, North West, has sentenced Gaananngwe Shadrack Kgosiemang, the former manager of Motswedi Village Bank, to five years in prison.
Kgosiemang, who was arrested in March 2023,is facing eleven counts charges for theft, stemming from his time managing the bank.

After consolidating all counts for sentencing, the court imposed a ten-year sentence with five years suspended.
This means that, the 58-year-old will serve a five-year prison term for theft.
Theft And Fraudulent Transfers
Kgosiemang was found guilty of stealing over half a million rand from Motswedi Village Bank between October 2018 and May 2019.
His responsibilities included promoting the bank’s products and reporting to the board of directors.

However, Kgosiemang exploited his position by misrepresenting financial transactions and fraudulently drawing cheques under false pretenses.
He transferred substantial amounts of money from the bank’s business account to his personal account without authorization, causing significant financial loss.
NPA Investigation
The National Prosecuting Authority, (NPA), spokesperson, Sivenathi Gunya, confirmed theft allegations against Kgosiemang.
Gunya disclosed that, the accused used deceit to approach a co-signatory and misled them into approving fraudulent transactions.

Further investigations revealed that the stolen funds amounted to over R500,000, which Kgosiemang transferred to his personal account without the bank’s knowledge or approval.
Impact On Bank And Community
State Advocate Matshidiso Ramakgaphola who presented a victim impact statement during sentencing, revealed the severe consequences of Kgosiemang’s actions.
The statement revealed that the bank had to be placed under judicial management due to the financial instability caused by his theft.
According to her, the loss deeply affected the institution and the local community, as Motswedi Village Bank was a vital resource for many in the area.
For his part, Dr. Rachel Makhari, Director of Public Prosecutions in North West, emphasized that, the sentencing will serve as a deterrent to potential commercial criminals.
She reiterated the NPA’s commitment to fighting commercial crime and protecting financial institutions from fraud.
