Foreign Nationals And South African Girlfriend Busted In R1.6m KZN Drug Sting

KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Organised Crime Narcotics officers have dismantled a drug syndicate following the arrest of two foreign nationals and a South African woman in Umzinto on Friday, 12 December 2025.

Police said the suspects were arrested for possession of and dealing in drugs after a targeted intelligence-driven operation aimed at disrupting drug trafficking in the area.

Crystal Meth, Cocaine and Heroin Recovered During Raids

According to police, officers received intelligence about a man from a West African country, his South African girlfriend and another accomplice from a Central African country who were allegedly involved in drug dealing in Umzinto and surrounding communities.

After obtaining the necessary search warrants, officers intercepted the main suspect shortly before 6am while he was driving.

During a search of the vehicle, police found crystal meth concealed under the driver’s seat, as well as an undisclosed amount of cash suspected to be proceeds of crime. He was arrested and his vehicle was seized.

A follow-up search at his Malangeni residence led to the discovery of various drugs hidden under a bed.

2 Foreign Nationals Arrested as Drugs Valued at R1.6 Million Seized

Further investigations led officers to the suspect’s girlfriend’s home, where she was found in possession of cocaine, crack cocaine and crystal meth. She was arrested at the scene.

Police then proceeded to a residence on Nelson Mandela Road, where the third suspect was found with nearly 5,000 heroin capsules and close to 800kg of heroin powder. He was also arrested.

The total estimated value of the recovered drugs is R1.6 million. After being processed, all three suspects are expected to appear in the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court.
