FlySafair Cabin Crew Strike Over Pay And Rosters Begins Amid Ongoing Wage Dispute

FlySafair cabin crew have launched a strike demanding better pay and changes to their work schedules. The industrial action involves members represented by the South African Cabin Crew Association.

Despite the strike, FlySafair says it does not anticipate major interruptions to its flight operations. More than two-thirds of the airline’s cabin crew are expected to continue working.

This includes both non-union members and union members who have accepted the airline’s 5.7% wage increase offer.

FlySafair Maintains Flight Operations During Strike

The airline’s Chief Marketing Officer Kirby Gordon confirmed that no full agreement had been reached between the airline and the union.

“Unfortunately, the parties did not finalise the settlements today, despite constructive engagement, as the employer initiates work stoppage that will commence from midnight.

“FlySafair’s full roster is, however, protected with all schedules with flights covered by non-unionist and unionist that have excepted the company’s offer,” Gordon said.

The airline emphasised that passenger schedules will continue as planned, with the strike affecting only a portion of the workforce.

The striking cabin crew are calling for higher wages and a revision of the current roster system. Negotiations with FlySafair have yet to produce a final resolution.

FlySafair reassured passengers that flights will remain operational, highlighting that the majority of staff are continuing their duties. The company said this ensures minimal disruption for travellers despite the industrial action.
