Refueling Challenges Cause Flight Delays At OR Tambo International Airport

The Airports Company South Africa (Acsa) has warned travellers of potential flight delays at OR Tambo International Airport on Monday due to challenges with aircraft refuelling.

According to Acsa’s statement, airlines are currently unable to refuel aircraft as per usual procedures, causing disruptions to the airport’s flight schedule.

“Please be advised that due to refuelling challenges at OR Tambo International Airport, airlines are currently unable to refuel aircraft as normal. As a result, some flights may experience delays,” Acsa said.

Technicians are reportedly working around the clock to resolve the situation. Acsa also assured passengers that updates would be provided as the situation evolves.

Flight Reschedules and Passenger Guidance

Acsa has encouraged passengers affected by these delays to stay in contact with their respective airlines for more detailed information regarding specific flight schedules. Travellers are urged to remain patient while the issue is being addressed.

The latest developments at OR Tambo come just days after South African Airways (SAA) announced the suspension of a pilots’ strike, which had been ongoing since last week.

The strike, which threatened to cause even more disruption to the airline’s services, was called off after successful negotiations between SAA management and the South African Airways Pilots Association (SAAPA).

SAA Pilots’ Strike Suspended A

Following a tense stand-off, both parties reached an agreement that included an additional 1% salary increase for pilots, which brings the total increase to 9.47%.

Interim CEO of SAA, Professor John Lamola, expressed relief that the strike had been suspended and said that, in addition to the salary raise, the airline had committed to implementing work-life balance measures that would boost productivity among pilots.

As a result of this agreement, more than 100 pilots will return to duty, and flight rescheduling is expected to resume with minimal disruption.

The airline is also planning further negotiations over the next eight weeks to ensure continuous improvements to operations and pilot welfare.
