Daring Mall Heist Foiled: Five Suspects Nabbed After Brooklyn Jewellery Store Robbery And Shootout

The South African Police Service in Tshwane has arrested five suspects, aged between 32 and 38, following a business robbery and vehicle hijacking at a jewellery store in Brooklyn on Wednesday, 18 March 2026.

The incident unfolded at around 09:50 at a shopping mall, where the suspects allegedly targeted a jewellery outlet in a coordinated attack.

Suspects Pose as Customers Before Dramatic Escape Attempt

Police say one of the alleged robbers initially entered the store pretending to be a customer before forcefully allowing others inside. During the robbery, one individual reportedly smashed display cabinets while the rest grabbed jewellery from the premises.

After looting the store, the group allegedly hijacked a vehicle to make their escape from the scene.

Shootout Erupts as Police Intercept Robbers in Pretoria CBD

A swift, coordinated response by the SAPS Tshwane District Stabilisation Team, working alongside private security, led to a high-speed pursuit. The suspects were eventually intercepted in the Pretoria Central CBD.

A shootout broke out during the operation, leaving a security officer wounded. He is currently receiving medical treatment. Three of the suspects were also injured and have been taken to a medical facility under police guard.

Authorities confirmed the recovery of the hijacked vehicle, a firearm with ammunition, and the stolen jewellery.

SAPS has praised the joint effort between law enforcement and private security, highlighting the rapid arrests and recovery of property. Investigations into the incident are continuing.
