Five Fake Police Officers Arrested In Daveyton After High-Speed N12 Chase

A group of five men pretending to be police officers have been arrested in Daveyton following a high-speed chase on the N12 highway. The suspects, aged between 28 and 34, were apprehended after an attempted hijacking that quickly unravelled when their target outsmarted them.
According to authorities, the incident began on Tuesday when a 36-year-old driver narrowly escaped a suspected hijacking attempt. The motorist had just offered a lift to a female pedestrian when his car was suddenly blocked by a white VW Golf.
A man wearing a reflective police jacket emerged from the vehicle, but the driver’s instincts told him something was wrong—prompting him to speed away.
Quick Police Response Leads to Dramatic Arrest
The suspects pursued the fleeing motorist, attempting to block his vehicle again. However, officers from the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Daveyton precinct, who noticed the suspicious Golf driving recklessly, intervened just in time.
EMPD officers managed to pull over the vehicle, leading to a tense confrontation and a subsequent search.

Inside, they discovered an alarming collection of items that included full South African Police Service (SAPS) uniforms, Community Policing Forum (CPF) jackets, a taser, two fighting belts, several cellphones, a screwdriver, and a firearm licence belonging to an unrelated person.

None of the five men could provide any evidence of being members of SAPS. They were immediately taken into custody and are now facing several charges, including impersonating police officers, attempted hijacking, and possession of SAPS property.
The suspects are currently detained at the Daveyton Police Station and are expected to appear in court soon as investigations continue.
