Five Cash-in-Transit Heist Suspects Gunned Down In KZN

A high-stakes police operation ended in a deadly shootout on Wednesday afternoon when five wanted cash-in-transit robbers were fatally shot in Ridgeview, near Chesterville, KwaZulu-Natal.
Foiled Heist Turns into Gun Battle
Law enforcement launched an intelligence-driven operation after uncovering plans for yet another cash-in-transit robbery in the iLembe District, northern KZN. Police presence disrupted the gang’s plans, leading authorities to track them down in Ridgeview.
“As officers moved in to apprehend the suspects, they opened fire, prompting police to retaliate. All five suspects were shot and killed in the exchange,” police confirmed.
Gauteng-Based Kingpin Among the Five Dead
The slain suspects, all from Gauteng, were linked to multiple cash-in-transit heists across the country, including the March 31, 2025, robbery in KwaMashu. Among them was a notorious kingpin suspected of orchestrating several high-profile robberies.
Police recovered four firearms at the scene, and the search for additional suspects continues as authorities work to dismantle the gang.
This latest takedown highlights South Africa’s escalating war on cash-in-transit criminals, with law enforcement intensifying efforts to curb violent heists across the country.
