Five Arrested Minutes After House Robbery And Kidnapping In Shakashead

Police arrested five armed suspects just minutes after they terrorised a family during a violent house robbery and kidnapping in Shakashead, within the Umhlali Policing Precinct, on Friday, 28 February 2025.

Family Assaulted and Terrorised

According to authorities, the armed suspects stormed the victims’ home, ripped a safe from the bedroom wall, and demanded information about their vehicles. The family of three endured physical assaults and intimidation before the robbers abducted a 32-year-old male victim to force him to withdraw money from a nearby ATM.

As soon as the suspects left the house with their hostage, his mother immediately contacted SAPS Umhlali. Within minutes, officers intercepted the suspects’ vehicle just 100 meters from the crime scene.

All five suspects were arrested on the spot, and the kidnapped victim was rescued unharmed. The getaway vehicle was recovered, and the victims were taken for medical treatment.

Police Applauded for Rapid Action And Arrest

ILembe District Commissioner, Major General Anthony Gopaul, praised the swift and decisive action of SAPS Umhlali, stating:

“Their rapid response and effective coordination led to the immediate arrest of these dangerous suspects and the safe rescue of the victim. This incident serves as a clear demonstration of our commitment to ensuring the safety and security of our communities.”

All five suspects face charges of house robbery and kidnapping and will appear in the KwaDukuza Magistrates Court soon.
