Basotho have been surprised after the Kingdom’s first lady was charged for the murder of Lilopelo Thabane and she got bail but they have also put their curiosity on to the acting Chief Justice Maseforo Mahasa who got Maesiah Thabane out on bail.

Rumours are spreading that Lipolelo the second wife of Prime Minister Tom Thabane was murdered by her husband’s first wife in 2017. Lipolelo’s friend was said to have survived the gun down.

Police tried to be against bail when Thabane appeared to her first hearing in court on Wednesday, quarreling that she might skip the country before her trial since she had escaped to South Africa before her arrest.

Thabane’s bail has raised suspicions about whether she is being helped by those with access to political influence.

Mahase who handled the case is already tangled up in controversy.

Prime Minister Thabane tried to nominate her permanently but this was challenged by Lebohang Hlaele the Secretary-General of Thabane’s All Basotho Convention party.

Mahase had a pending case of judicial misconduct according to Hlaele. He’s also blaming her of shamelessly taking sides when party factions were fighting it out in court.

In the meantime, Basotho have not taken recent developments lightly.

Many people have commented on social media that they were not shocked that Mahase provided the first lady with bail, going at odds with how previous matters involving escapees were handled.

Thabane is due to arrive back in court just over two weeks time.

For now, police have not yet put on trial the seven other individuals charged in the matter.
