Authorities believe the fire began near the top of Jonkersdam mountain before racing down the slopes, pushed rapidly by strong gusts.

The intense winds have made firefighting efforts extremely challenging, forcing teams to focus on preventing the blaze from crossing into populated zones.

Eyewitnesses have reported thick smoke visible across the valley, while emergency vehicles continue to patrol the area.
