Firearm Still Missing After Shooting At Robert Mugabe’s Johannesburg Home, Police Confirm

The firearm allegedly used in a shooting at the Johannesburg residence of former Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe has not yet been recovered, police have confirmed.

Officers have intensified their search at the Hyde Park property after discovering spent cartridges at the scene. The police dog unit has since been deployed to assist in locating the weapon.

Gauteng police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirmed developments on Thursday afternoon while addressing the media outside the high-walled home.

Police Search Underway for Missing Firearm at Hyde Park Property

Speaking outside the residence, Nevhuhulwi confirmed that a gardener employed at the property was shot during the incident.

The victim was rushed to hospital and remains in a critical condition.

Details surrounding the circumstances of the shooting are still under investigation. Nevhuhulwi confirmed that two individuals, aged 33 and 24, have been taken in for questioning. Among them is the former president’s son.

According to Nevhuhulwi, the two suspects were allegedly inside the house when the incident occurred.

SAPS Investigation Continues After Mugabe Home Shooting

Nevhuhulwi said the South African Police Service (SAPS) were alerted to the shooting by private security personnel operating at the Hyde Park property in Johannesburg.

She added that officers had to knock in order to gain access to the premises.

Authorities have launched a formal investigation and continue to comb through the scene as the search for the missing firearm continues.
