Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Confirmed For Switch 2 On 3 June, Following Remake Intergrade

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is officially heading to Nintendo’s new Switch 2 console on 3 June, with the announcement made during this morning’s Nintendo Direct livestream.

The release marks the second chapter in Square Enix’s ambitious Final Fantasy 7 remake project. Its predecessor, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, landed on Nintendo hardware earlier this year on 22 January, leaving fans with a relatively short gap between entries.

That six-month turnaround is a notable contrast to the four-year wait PlayStation players experienced between the first and second instalments of the remake series.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth brings modern combat and visuals to Switch 2

For players unfamiliar with the project, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth reimagines the middle section of the original 1997 PlayStation classic. While the core story remains recognisable, almost everything else has been modernised.

The game abandons traditional turn-based battles in favour of a real-time action combat system, delivering a faster, more dynamic experience. Visually, it is a major upgrade over the original, and the newly revealed trailer highlights the technical muscle of the Switch 2.

Importantly, this is a full port of the PlayStation 5 version, underscoring Nintendo’s claims that the Switch 2 can handle demanding, big-budget titles. Xbox players will also benefit, as Rebirth launches on Xbox Series X and Series S on the same day.

All consoles aligned as fans await the final chapter

With both current Final Fantasy 7 remake entries now confirmed across all major console platforms, players can collectively turn their attention to the long-awaited third and final instalment.

Despite the original JRPG debuting in 1997, the remake project has expanded into a trilogy of large-scale releases. Square Enix has yet to confirm a release window for the concluding chapter, though industry rumours point to a potential 2027 launch.

Nintendo Direct highlights more major Switch 2 releases

Beyond Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, today’s Nintendo Direct showcased several high-profile third-party titles coming to the Switch 2.

Bethesda revealed that Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition will arrive on 24 February, followed by Indiana Jones and the Great Circle on 12 May. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is also planned for release later this year, further strengthening the console’s upcoming line-up.
