Fikile Mbalula Labels Former ANC President Jacob Zuma ‘Dangerous’ Amid Expulsion

On Monday, ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula announced the expulsion of former ANC President Jacob Zuma. The National Disciplinary Committee (NDC) found against Zuma, expelling him from the party with an option to appeal within 21 days.

This decision follows allegations against Zuma for undermining the ANC’s values and mobilizing against democratic institutions.

Mbalula accused Zuma of appealing to ‘extremist instincts’ within South Africa’s political landscape. He stated, “The political values and democratic institutions he is mobilising against were consciously embedded into our constitutional dispensation by the ANC as strategic advances of the values of the national democratic revolution.”

According to Mbalula, Zuma’s platform is dangerous, targeting extremist sentiments and potentially inciting social unrest.

Mbalula defended the ANC’s decision to expel Zuma, emphasizing that the party adheres to its constitution and does not discriminate in enforcing its disciplinary actions. He noted that Zuma’s conduct was irreconcilable with the spirit of organisational discipline and the letter of the ANC constitution.

“Zuma has been running on a dangerous platform that casts doubt on our entire constitutional edifice,” Mbalula said. He further noted that Zuma’s actions included discrediting the credibility of electoral processes and the judicial system.

The NDC found Zuma guilty of contravening rule 25.17.17.4 of the ANC constitution, which states acts of misconduct include acting on behalf of or in collaboration with counter-revolutionary forces.

Mbalula concluded, “The charged member is expelled from the ANC. The charged member has the right to appeal to the NDC of appeal within 21 days.” This expulsion marks a significant moment in the ANC’s commitment to maintaining its democratic values and organisational discipline.
