How the FIFA World Cup 2026 Draw Will Work

Attention now shifts to the FIFA World Cup 26 draw, which takes place on 5 December.

All 48 teams will be sorted into 12 groups of four, with placement determined by world rankings. Before the draw:

Pot 1 will include the three host nations plus the nine highest-ranked qualified teams.

Pots 2 to 4 will be filled with the remaining teams in order of ranking.

Pot 4 will also feature placeholders for the final playoff winners.

During the draw, one team from each pot will be assigned to every group from A to L, ensuring balance and preventing a cluster of top-ranked sides in the same group.
