Suspended Crime Intelligence General Feroz Khan Shot Ahead Of Madlanga Commission Testimony

Suspended Deputy Head of Crime Intelligence Major General Feroz Khan is in critical condition after he was shot in what police believe was a targeted attack in Houghton on Sunday night.

The shooting occurred just days before Khan was due to testify before the Madlanga Commission, which is investigating allegations involving corruption, drug theft and the illicit precious metals trade.

Police have confirmed the incident and launched an investigation while urging the public not to speculate about the motive.

Feroz Khan Shot In Suspected Targeted Attack In Houghton

According to preliminary information, two unidentified suspects travelling in a white Mercedes-Benz allegedly opened fire on Khan before fleeing the scene.

Investigators recovered at least two spent bullet casings, while reports indicate Khan sustained gunshot wounds to his lower body.

He was rushed to Netcare Milpark Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Madlanga Commission Testimony Scheduled This Week

Khan had been expected to appear before the Madlanga Commission on 1 July after withdrawing legal efforts to prevent his testimony and block investigators from accessing his electronic devices.

The commission is probing allegations of corruption, drug theft and the illegal precious metals trade.

The timing of the shooting has drawn attention because it occurred only days before Khan’s scheduled appearance. However, police have stressed that no conclusions should be drawn while investigations are ongoing.

Police Expand Investigation Into Houghton Shooting

National police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe confirmed that the investigation is being treated with urgency.

She said the Acting National Commissioner has instructed that the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) be incorporated into the investigation to ensure every possible lead is pursued and those responsible are brought to justice.

Police also cautioned against linking the shooting to Khan’s expected commission appearance without evidence.

“It is premature and irresponsible to speculate on any possible motive or to conclude that the incident is linked to his anticipated appearance before the Commission,” Mathe said.

Investigations into the shooting are continuing.
