Felix Hlophe Speaks Out After Viral Video Storm: ‘There Was No Physical Violence’

South Africa’s gossip mill went into overdrive this week after a viral video linked to Gagasi FM breakfast show host Felix Hlophe set social media alight. Now, the popular radio personality has finally spoken out, breaking his silence amid mounting online speculation about his private life.
Hlophe confirmed that he is aware of statements circulating on social media, allegedly made by an associate of his wife. He said the matter has been referred to his legal representatives, signalling that the situation has moved beyond online chatter and into formal territory.
According to Hlophe, the incident at the centre of the controversy occurred on Wednesday, shortly after information about his personal life began circulating publicly. He stressed that the situation unfolded during an emotionally charged family interaction.
Felix Hlophe Explains What Happened on the Day of the Confrontation
Hlophe explained that after the matter became public, his wife accepted an invitation from a friend to spend time away with their children. He later went to fetch his wife and children, accompanied by his mother-in-law.
“During this interaction, emotions ran high on all sides and an unfortunate confrontation took place, but there was no physical violence,” Hlophe said.
Addressing the viral video clips circulating online, the radio host maintained that they do not show the full picture. He said the footage reflects only a partial version of events and lacks the broader context of what transpired.
Police Called, but No Arrests Made
Security personnel and police were called to the scene as a precaution. Hlophe noted that both private security and police officers raised concerns about insults allegedly directed at his mother-in-law during the exchange. Importantly, no arrests were made.

Despite the distress caused by the incident and the subsequent online reaction, Hlophe said his wife and children returned home safely.

Hlophe revealed that the family, including his mother-in-law, spent Christmas together peacefully — a detail likely to reassure listeners and fans following the unfolding story closely.
“I would like to thank everyone who has reached out with messages of concern and support. I can confirm that there is order, and my family is on good terms,” he said.
He added that he and his wife, Tracy, have chosen to prioritise peace, respect and unity, and remain committed to handling their personal matters privately and with dignity. Hlophe concluded by wishing South Africans “a safe and joyful festive season.”

Hlophe wrote on SurgeZirc SA’s Facebook page disputing an earlier report that alleged his wife had left their home with their child following domestic abuse.

However, SurgeZirc SA has since seen additional videos that raise questions about Hlophe’s account of events and will publish them in due course.
