Heroic Father Dies Protecting Toddler In Reiger Park Mass Shooting

A Reiger Park father has been hailed a hero after he was killed while protecting his toddler during a mass shooting in the Ekurhuleni township on Saturday night. Six people were fatally shot when suspects in two vehicles opened fire on a group of residents.
The toddler, who sustained minor injuries, survived the attack thanks to the father’s selfless act. The motive behind the shooting remains unknown, and no arrests have yet been made.
Heartbroken mother Harldene Naidoo spoke of her grief and pride, saying her partner’s final moments were spent ensuring their child’s safety.
“I am heartbroken, at the same time, I am also proud of what he did. I know he didn’t do it for no reason; it was to save our child. He wasn’t a gangster — people criticised him unfairly. He was a happy, funny person who always made others laugh,” Naidoo said.
Father’s Family And Community Demands Justice
The tragedy has left the Reiger Park community in shock and anger. Dozens of residents gathered outside the local police station on Sunday, calling for accountability and demanding action from law enforcement.

“They don’t even do proper investigations. My grandson was with his aunt — they have footage showing how this guy started shooting. Justice must be done. We are so angry,” Minnaar said.
Police have urged anyone with information to come forward as investigations into the deadly Reiger Park shooting continue.
