4 Arrested After Free State Farmer Killed, Wife Kidnapped In Tragic Attack

Police in the Free State have arrested four suspects following the murder of a 52-year-old farmer and the kidnapping of his wife in the Goedemoed policing area on Sunday.

The incident, which has sent shockwaves through the Rouxville community, saw the farmer shot in the head while his wife was abducted. Police spokesperson Captain Loraine Earle revealed that the crime was reported by local farmers who suspected foul play.
Acting swiftly, law enforcement tracked the farmer’s stolen vehicle to Tierpoort, where the Bloemfontein Flying Squad intervened. The kidnapped woman was found inside the vehicle and rescued. She is now receiving medical care, and authorities are determining if additional charges will be filed.

During the operation, one suspect was injured and later succumbed to his wounds in the hospital. Two women and one man were arrested at the scene, with firearms recovered from the vehicle.
Police Investigation Underway
Police are processing crime scenes and pursuing additional leads to uncover more details about the attack and possibly arrest further suspects.
Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane, Free State Provincial Police Commissioner, lauded the quick action of the farming community and law enforcement. “I extend my condolences to the family of the deceased. A dedicated team will ensure justice is served,” said Motswenyane.
