Fannie Nkosi To Spend More Nights In Jail As Bail Judgment Set For Wednesday

Suspended sergeant Fannie Nkosi will remain behind bars until Wednesday as the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court prepares to deliver its ruling on his bail application.

Nkosi appeared in court on firearms-related charges after police allegedly discovered seven guns at his home during a raid earlier this month.

Fannie Nkosi Slapped With Additional Charges

Beyond the firearms case, Nkosi faces charges linked to the possession of police dockets, including one that had reportedly been missing for a decade.

Prosecutors allege that he concealed these documents in an effort to obstruct ongoing investigations.

During proceedings, Nkosi drew attention in the dock by slouching and turning away from the media while chewing gum. Magistrate Thandi Theledi reprimanded him, instructing him to sit upright and reminding him that chewing is not permitted in court.

State and Defence Clash Over Bail Risks

Nkosi’s legal representative, advocate Siza Dlali, challenged the state’s case, arguing there was no basis to deny bail.

“There is no evidence that Mr Nkosi will influence the members of the national task team who will testify against him in the main trial.”

However, state advocate Tholoana Sekhonyana opposed his release, citing serious concerns about the nature of the charges.

“Some of the offences he is charged with, e.g., defeating the ends of justice, were carefully planned, executed and persisted for a long period. He has shown to have disregard for the rule of law.”

Magistrate Theledi has reserved judgment and is expected to deliver her decision on Wednesday.
