Fannie Masemola Declares He Is ‘Beyond Reproach’ Amid Parliamentary Grilling

National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola has asserted that he is “beyond reproach” in his position as South Africa’s top cop. The commissioner made the statement while testifying before Parliament’s ad hoc committee investigating corruption within the criminal justice system.
Masemola returned to Parliament to conclude his testimony and respond to questions from MPs on the second day of hearings. His comments came amid growing scrutiny of his leadership and the ongoing corruption probe involving senior figures in law enforcement.
Refuses to Comment on Senzo Mchunu Arrest Allegations
During the session, Masemola declined to share his views on whether Police Minister Senzo Mchunu should be arrested following allegations of ties to underworld crime and alleged interference in police operations.
Masemola stated that he could not comment on the matter as there was “a case against the minister being investigated.” His silence on the issue drew attention from committee members eager for clarity on his stance regarding accountability within the police service.

ActionSA MP Dereleen James questioned Masemola on the qualities required of a national police commissioner, asking whether the role demanded someone “fit for purpose.”
“Anyone holding the position of national commissioner should be beyond reproach, do you agree? Are you beyond reproach?” James asked.
Masemola confidently responded, “That’s correct, honourable chairperson,” reaffirming his belief that he is the right person to lead the South African Police Service despite ongoing investigations into corruption in the sector.
