Family Seeks Justice After PSL Star’s Crash Claims Life Of Young Girl

Gomolemo Mavimbela, a nine-year-old girl, tragically lost her life in a car accident allegedly caused by Sekhukhune United player Shaun Mogaila in Tembisa on Wednesday morning, leaving her family shattered and seeking justice.

The accident took place during the morning school run while Gomolemo’s mother was driving her daughter and a 13-year-old neighbor’s child to school. Both survivors are currently facing critical conditions in the ICU, deepening the family’s anguish.

Allegations Against the Soccer Player

The accused in this tragic case is Shaun Mogaila, a player for Sekhukhune United. Reports indicate that following the fatal crash at 7:30 AM on Andrew Mapheto Road, Mogaila handed himself over to authorities at the nearby Rabie Ridge police station.

Preliminary investigations revealed the presence of suspected cocaine, edibles, and expensive alcohol in his vehicle. Eyewitness accounts suggest Mogaila initially fled the accident scene before turning himself in, raising serious concerns about his actions post-crash.

The Family’s Call for Justice

In the wake of this tragedy, Gomolemo’s family is adamant about seeking justice. Her uncle, Patrick Kekane, articulated their collective sorrow and anger, stating, “The suspect must face justice. Drinking and driving is wrong and illegal.”

He described his niece as an energetic and sweet child who enjoyed school and playing with her electronic devices.

“Gomolemo loved playing, she loved school and enjoyed playing with her electronic gadgets like her laptop. I am going to miss her, she also loved playing with my daughter Mahlatse who is six years old. When I see my daughter I see Gomolemo,” he said.

As the legal proceedings unfold, Mogaila faces serious charges including culpable homicide and reckless driving.  However, his court appearance at the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on Thursday was postponed to Friday as prosecutors requested additional evidence from the SAPS.
