Family Of Nathi Mthethwa Grateful After Painful Journey To Bring Him Home

The family of the late ambassador Nathi Mthethwa has described bringing his remains back from France as a deeply emotional and difficult process.

Mthethwa, who served as South Africa’s ambassador to France and Monaco, passed away in Paris last week. His body arrived home on Friday.

Family spokesperson Dr Sifiso Buthelezi said, “Fellow South Africans, all that we want to say is we are now back at home.

“We did not come back empty-handed – we came back with the son of the soil, to present him to his family, to his children, and the people of South Africa. Here is Nathi in front of you.”

A Painful but Meaningful Journey

Buthelezi admitted that the repatriation process was not easy, hinting at challenges faced along the way. “It was not easy, we will speak about that someday, but I must thank uMa’Buthelezi Philisiwe because if it was just alone – we’d still be wandering around in France,” he said.

Despite the pain and difficulty, the Mthethwa family expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone who helped bring him home. They thanked all officials, embassy staff, and supporters for their compassion and assistance during this time of grief.
