Family Expresses Frustration As Murder Trial Of Chesnay Keppler Is Postponed Again

The family of 22-year-old crime warden Chesnay Keppler is expressing outrage after yet another delay in the murder trial of Sergeant Mandla Buthelezi.

On Thursday, Buthelezi was scheduled for a virtual appearance in the Protea Magistrate’s Court, but technical issues with the Virtual Remote Appearance (VRA) system led to the case being postponed until next month.

Keppler’s Father Speaks Out Against Remote Appearance

Trevor Keppler, the father of the slain woman, voiced his frustration over the ongoing delays and the fact that Buthelezi is allowed to appear remotely, while they are forced to attend court in person.

“Why must we as parents be there in person while he gets the luxury of appearing remotely? He should face the full might of the law,” said Trevor.

He further emphasized that despite the slow pace of the case, they are determined to ensure that there are no gaps for the defense to exploit.

Investigation Still Ongoing Amid Legal Setbacks

While they waits for justice, key witness statements and the ballistics report remain outstanding, according to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).

Buthelezi, who has not applied for bail, is scheduled to appear in court again on April 4th.

Chesnay Keppler was tragically shot and killed in Eldorado Park on Boxing Day 2024 following an argument with Buthelezi, who allegedly fired a fatal shot through a window.
