Fake Doctor Caught Roaming Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital With Stethoscope And Lab Coat

Security personnel at Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital were quick to act when they spotted a suspicious individual dressed in a doctor’s white lab coat and carrying a stethoscope.

The fake doctor, who claimed to be a professor, was seen taking photos while wandering the hospital corridors, according to acting CEO Nomkhita Mthonjana.

Mthonjana said the security team brought the matter to her attention after noticing discrepancies in the badge the impersonating doctor was wearing.

“It stated ‘Prof of Internal Medicine and Surgery,’ but the format and design did not match those used by our institution,” she told the SABC.

Authorities Intervene As Hospital Alerts Police

The hospital’s management immediately involved local law enforcement.

Police responded promptly after being contacted by the administration.

Mthonjana revealed that upon confrontation, the fake doctor claimed he was interested in doing volunteer work.

“I told him we cannot have volunteers operating within the institution without official protocols,” she said.

The man’s lab coat and stethoscope were confiscated by police as they continued investigations.

This incident draws parallels with the widely publicised case of Matthew Lani, a South African social media figure who also posed as a qualified doctor.
